Polybutylene & Pinhole Copper: Why the Letters Are Coming

Homes built 1978–1995 often carry polybutylene supply lines — gray plastic pipe with a failure record so severe it drew a $950 million settlement, and which most Florida carriers now refuse to insure. Older copper develops pinhole leaks from our water chemistry; by the third leak, you’re funding the next failure.

Either way the endgame is the same: a repipe, on your schedule or the water’s. Doing it now — with documentation — keeps your coverage, your drywall, and your timeline intact.

New pipes deserve clean water: Halo whole-home filtration is half-off install labor with any repipe.

Frequently Asked Questions

How disruptive is a repipe really?

Less than you fear. We make small, planned access openings, keep water on overnight, finish most homes in 2–3 days, and patch the drywall ourselves. Most families never leave the house.

Will this satisfy my insurance company?

That’s the point of our process: an assessment letter up front if your carrier requires action, then permit records and a completion letter when the repipe passes inspection. Carriers accept documented, permitted repipes.

PEX or copper?

Both are excellent installed correctly. PEX is quieter, faster, and more cost-effective; copper is time-proven. We quote both and recommend based on your home — not our margin.

What does it cost per month?

Through GreenSky financing, a typical 2-bath repipe runs from about $120/month. You’ll see the real payment on your written quote before deciding.

Do you handle the permits?

Always. Every repipe is permitted and inspected — that’s what makes the documentation meaningful to your carrier and the next buyer.
